New requirements for the importation of goods of animal origin (POAO) and animal by-products (ABP) from the European Union (EU) to the United Kingdom (UK) (GB) Beginning January 1, 2022

New requirements for the importation of goods of animal origin (POAO) and animal by-products (ABP) from the European Union (EU) to the United Kingdom (UK) (GB) Beginning January 1, 2022

Following the Government’s declaration in September 2021 that some EU-GB Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) import regulations would take effect on 1 July 2022, we want to remind you of the requirements that will remain in effect on 1 January 2022.

While certification, documentary, identification, and physical checks for products of animal origin, animal by-products, plants, and plant products will be phased in between July and November 2022, the necessity for pre-notifying consignments will begin on 1 January 2022.

From 1 January 2022, enterprises importing products of animal origin, animal by-products, and high risk foods not of animal origin (HRFNAO) will be required to inform consignments at least four hours prior to their arrival in the United Kingdom. Pre-notification must be made through the system for the import of products, animals, food, and feed (IPAFFS).
