In a nutshell

If you buy or sell goods across the GB border, someone has to turn your commercial paperwork into customs declarations. Customs Declarations UK (CDUK) lets your own team prepare and submit GB import and export declarations directly through HMRC's Customs Declaration Service (CDS), using the invoices, product information and shipment details you already hold.

It works best as a repeatable process: start with a group of routine shipments, train the people who prepare and review them, and extend lane by lane as your confidence and volumes grow. Saved parties, templates, declaration cloning and AI document processing make each repeat shipment quicker than the last.

You have full control of every declaration, with built-in checks and our UK team behind you. Pay as you go, with no monthly fee and no minimum volume, with a custom subscription available when your volumes grow.

Where to begin

Start with the work you understand best

Regular products and familiar trade lanes are a practical place to begin, and you do not need to move every shipment at once. Pick a group of declarations, let CDUK guide the requirements and train the people who will prepare and review them, with our onboarding team alongside.

Routine imports

  • GB CDS import
  • IDP

Goods you buy regularly from known suppliers give you stable product, party and document patterns. They are the natural first group to bring in-house. Saved parties and products, document extraction and guided CDS requirements pay off from the first repeat shipment.

Saved details speed up every repeat entry, and guided checks help confirm classification, origin and valuation for each product.

GB import and export declarations
From paperwork to filing

From commercial information to a customs declaration

The information on your commercial documents is the raw material. CDUK shapes it into a reviewable draft, guides you through the requirements and checks it, so your team makes the decisions that turn it into a declaration. Each stage below happens in one platform, with no re-keying between tools.

Shipment to declaration
  • InvoiceParties, goods, values
  • Packing listPackages, weights
  • Product informationChecked descriptions and codes
  1. Step 1: Extract into a draft

IDP reads the documents and prepares a structured draft for your team to review, saving the retyping. Conflicting values are shown side by side, so your team chooses the right one before the declaration is created.

  2. Step 2: Work through the requirements

Selected commodity codes bring up the relevant CDS requirements, mapped for you to complete. Guided wizards and UK Tariff lookup keep each requirement in front of your team.

  3. Step 3: Validate and submit

Review the entry, fix anything flagged by real-time validation and submit directly to CDS. Your team checks one complete declaration before it goes.

  4. Step 4: Follow the response

Track customs responses and supply any information requested. Notifications tell you when something arrives, and the audit trail records every change.

An illustrative process. The platform guides classification, origin and valuation, and your team makes the decisions.

Division of work

You bring the knowledge. CDUK does the heavy lifting.

The platform builds on what you already know about your goods, organises it into a form customs can receive and checks it before you submit. CDUK takes on the repetitive work around your knowledge.

After you submit

Keep preparation and release clear

Submitting a declaration is one stage of the shipment. CDUK keeps the response, any information requested and your next steps together, so you can coordinate with your carrier before goods move.

  • Monitor each response

An acceptance, a query and a release are different events, and CDUK shows each one clearly. Notifications of customs responses reach your team as they arrive, so you can act on a query straight away.

  • Coordinate with the carrier

Tell your carrier or forwarder what has been filed and which references apply before the goods move. References sit in the same account, so you can pass them on quickly.

  • Plan the other filings

Where the route needs safety and security, transit or a Goods Movement Reference (GMR) through the Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS), file them from the same account as your import or export declaration. GMR creation is free when the underlying declaration is filed with CDUK.

  • Hold the evidence

Keep the documents behind each declaration attached to the declaration they belong to. A full audit trail and history make it simple to answer questions.

  • Know how to amend

Post-acceptance amendments and cancellations can be submitted through the platform, with a full history. See HMRC's amendment changes.

  • Cover the EU entry filing

EU ICS2 is the safety and security entry filing for goods entering the EU, and CDUK files it alongside your GB export from the same account. Tell us the countries and declaration types you need and we will confirm what fits.

Whole-cost view

Compare the whole cost of filing

A lower transaction price matters most when the whole process is quicker and clearer for your team. CDUK is pay as you go with no monthly fee and no minimum volume, plus custom subscriptions with volume discounts. See pricing and tell us your expected workload, and we will help you compare the whole cost.

  • Software charges

Pay as you go with no monthly fee, up to £25 per CDS declaration, or a subscription with volume discounts. Document processing carries no per-document fee.

  • Preparation time

How long a typical declaration takes your team to prepare and check, which you can measure on your own goods during onboarding. Saved parties, cloned declarations and extracted drafts shorten each repeat shipment.

  • Training

Short, practical onboarding and training from our UK team gets the people who prepare and review comfortable with the platform quickly. Guided wizards help new team members contribute quickly.

  • Review

Real-time validation and guided checks before submission. Your reviewer sees a complete, checked draft instead of hunting for gaps.

  • Our support

UK-based help from our team for new products, procedures and questions, included in the service.

  • Rework

Fewer corrections, because wrong or missing data is flagged before submission. Each avoided correction saves staff time.

Getting started

From first conversation to first filing

A short, staged path keeps the change manageable, and our team supports you from first call to first live filing. There is no minimum volume to commit to.

  1. Step 1: Talk through your first lane

Tell us your company, main trade lane and approximate volume, and we show you what filing your own declarations involves and how quickly your team can start.

  2. Step 2: Register and onboard

Create your account and complete the setup needed to file directly with HMRC. Our onboarding explains the platform, and the onboarding guide walks through it.

  3. Step 3: File a first group of declarations

Begin with routine shipments, reviewing each draft carefully while the team builds confidence. After a few filings the workflow becomes familiar.

  4. Step 4: Extend gradually

Add lanes and services as the process proves itself, all in the same account. Pay as you go, or agree a subscription on the pricing page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from traders.

Do we need customs knowledge?

Someone on your team should know the goods. Guided wizards, commodity lookup and real-time validation help you prepare each declaration, and our onboarding and training bring your team up to speed. Our UK support is there whenever you have a question.

Can we move all our declarations to CDUK?

Yes. Start with your routine shipments, then bring every lane over, all in one account. We support you through onboarding and training. As your volumes grow, a custom subscription can bring the cost per declaration down.

Does CDUK cover the EU side of a shipment?

On the EU side, CDUK files the EU ICS2 safety and security entry declaration (ENS) for goods entering the EU, from the same account as your GB export. The EU import declaration itself is lodged in the destination country by the importer there.

Do we need a port badge?

Not for RoRo / GVMS movements or export declarations. Inventory-linked ports connect through CNS, MCP/Destin8 and CCS-UK, and we set the route up with you. See filing GB import declarations without a port badge.

Who is responsible for our declarations?

You are. You prepare each declaration, check it and submit it directly to HMRC, with built-in checks and our support behind you. As the declarant, you own the content, and the platform guides and checks it for you.

Can we start with a small number of shipments?

Yes. Begin with a group of routine shipments, let CDUK guide the requirements and train the people who prepare and review. You can extend lane by lane as volumes grow, with no minimum volume and no monthly fee.

How does pricing work if we file for ourselves?

It is pay as you go with no monthly fee and no minimum volume, or a custom subscription with volume discounts as your declarations grow. Document processing carries no per-document fee. See our pricing page for the maximum price per declaration, and tell us your volumes so we can suggest the best fit.
